  Your dreams can become reality

Winter Rock Climbing Courses

Just because it is winter, doesn't mean to say that you cannot go rock climbing!

Some of the most rewarding climbing can be had during winter. Either the views are gloriously clear due to the cold air systems, or you get that feeling that you have just nicked a day from under the nose of the god of rain (who ever that is!).
What about the cold though? Well wear more clothes, wrist-overs and ankle warmers (?!) and not so tight rock shoes. Simple really!

Remember every course is personalised according to your experience
and what you wish to learn.
All course dates and locations are agreed in discussion with you.

Rock climbing Basics
For those who have had little or no experience of climbing, but who would like to receive an introduction into this wonderful sport. A wide variety of skills, techniques and equipment will be covered as well as lots and lots of climbing.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 or 1:2

Competent second
Personalised instruction which will enable you to confidently advise, belay, help and follow a partner up a rock climb. Aimed at those with some basic skills of climbing. Help your partner and yourself by learning the tricks of the trade whilst climbing some of the best routes in your chosen area of the country.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 or 1:2

'In that zone?'
Have not found a course that you think would suit you best?
Unable to identify what you need to learn and develop and yet feel that there is something to be addressed in your climbing?
Well, 'don't panic!' The beauty of climbing with a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors is our experience in identifying and coaching clients in success and satisfaction. Rest assured, an AMI member will find lots for you to improve on!
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 or 1:2

Multi-pitch rock
You feel confident, competent and completely at home climbing on single pitch crags, but are unsure about the wider world of multi-pitch routes? Well, this course is designed for you to develop your skills in a discipline of climbing that can open up any route or mountain to you.
Some of the skills which will be covered include suitable rope work, belay construction, route finding and retreat/abseils.
Intructor/client ratio 1:1 or 1:2

Introduction to lead climbing
Learn this often intimidating discipline though a logical process of development and encouragement. Aimed towards those who want to lead and have the suitable experience seconding or leading indoors. Your first experiences of lead climbing are the most important so take this opportunity to develop at your own pace in a supportive environment.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:2

Problem solving
Often advertised as 'rescues' or 'hoisting and help' these courses can become all too quickly an endurance in memorising knots, systems and scenarios. Most of the time, prior planning, organisation and lateral thinking can prevent problems arrising. This course emphasises the simple steps needed to deal with problems and when that one in a million situation does arise, the suitable rope work required.
Intructor/client ratio 1:2

Classic Rock Courses and Guide
Ken Wilson's book has a lot to answer for!
This coffee table favourite of many is Edward Kinnear's as well. Whilst he has never had a 'tick list', a crafty eye has always been kept on these classics and is now well on the way to being completed. If these or any other routes catch your fancy (irrespective of your climbing experience) we can discuss your dream. You never know - your first 'tick' may complete his!
