Summer Hillcraft Courses

These series of courses follow requests from clients who are walkers, asking me to offer the same skills, techniques and tricks of the trade available to the mountaineer.
Every course is personalised according to your experience and what you wish to learn.
All course dates and locations are agreed in discussion with you.
For example, how does a few days backpacking along part of Wainwright's Coast to Coast path this August sound?

Hill Walking Skills
One or two days instruction aimed at either the lone walker or those taking groups or their family into the hills. As with all courses on offer, the learning is driven by your needs. Topics can include hazards on the hills, advanced navigation techniques and route selection, group management, what to carry/equipment choice etc.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 > 1:6

Hill Navigation
Aimed at any body with an interest in navigation no-matter their current ability. Develop your skills at your own pace in a supportive environment. A wide range of techniques and tricks of the trade can be potentially learnt and practiced. Remember that ‘Perfect Practice Makes Permanent’.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 > 1:6

Guided Walks
Ever wanted to walk a route you have read or heard about, but are really not sure about your hillcraft skills? Have you an ideal journey in mind but have little time to organise or undertake such a venture?
Well having your own personal guide might be the answer. Remove the stress and strain of organisation, navigation, timings, safety(!), call or e-mail with your dream journey.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 > 1:6

Long Distance Walks – The Basics
Experience the independence and contentment of crossing the hills, with everything you need on your back.
Explore the rolling hills and moors with a freedom to visit any established campsite or Youth Hostel of your choice. Learn the small details that enable others and now you to walk long distance footpaths with confidence and comfort.
Once again, as on all courses, you determine what you want to learn. The two days either side of your overnight experience can involve any of the elements from this Hillcraft page.
