Scrambling Courses

Every course is personalised according to your experience and what you wish to learn.
All course dates and locations are agreed in discussion with you.
For example, how about a day scrambling various grades in Coniston and only 10 minutes from the car this spring?

Scrambling basics
The moment a walker leans forward and uses their hands to help themself ascend rock, they are scrambling. Learn the basics of climbing rocky steps, outcrops or routes, in the most energy effecient and safest way. Skills such as balance, hand hold choice, spotting (!), guide books and navigation will be covered. Routes could include Striding Edge up Helvellyn, Jacks Rake on Pavey Ark or Stickle Gill in Langdale.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 > 1:4

'Bring out the rope'
Aimed at those more experienced walkers and scramblers who wish to move onto more technical scrambles with the security of a rope. This would be on grade 2 or 3 terrain and would involve instruction of skills such as guide book interpretation, rope work, runner placement, belaying and problem solving. All skills covered on terrain like Pinnacle Ridge or the Main Face of Pike of Stickle.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 or 1:2

Ghyll scambling
Ghyll, clough, stream, gorge - they all have different names throughout the country, but scambling them involves ascending the rock beds in a uniquely British atmosphere and situation.
Our desire to find new climbs on this crowded island has dragged hill walkers and mountaineers into these depths to sample a unique experience.
Dry weather usually neccessary but not essential !
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 or 1:2

Ghyll jumps and slides
The course title says it all really!
Full immersion ghylls where staying dry is not an option. The Lake District provides numerous locations (Stoneycroft Gorge, Esk Gorge or Church Beck) which cater for various water levels, prevailing weather and those who like HUGE jumps, slides, wet abseils, scenic gorge floats (?!). The choice is yours.
Instructor/client ratio: 1:1 > 1:4
