A4 Walling Hand-out

For a certain mountaineering assessment, I was required to produce a presentation on the ‘mountain environment’. This I duly did.
However this presentation proved to be so enjoyable that I produced a hand-out for its attendees. This is now available for you too!!

The presentation title….
“Dry stone walls and walling”

Exciting stuff eh!

Well it might not immediately grab you but when you think about it walls are an integral part of the history and fabric of the countryside. They simply do not build themselves! The construction and logical thinking needed (so as to ensure they survive for hundreds of years) is as detailed as any modern building.

For mountaineers, walls provide you with your first glimpse as to the rock of a new area you might be visiting for the first time. They tell the story of the geology of that area and the influences upon it later and provide any prospective outdoor instructor with valuable information for groups, clients and assessments!
